Welcome to Munich

After Disentis (CH, 1994), Chamonix (F, 1996), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (D, 1998), Bergamo and Castione della Presolana (I, 2000), Alpbach (A, 2002),  Engelberg (CH, 2007) and the two AlpWeeks in Kranjska Gora (SI, 2004) and Argentière-La-Béssée (F, 2008), this year's ForumAlpinum is hosted by Munich (Bavaria, D)

Why is the ForumAlpinum being held in the centre of the city of Munich?

There are any numbers of links and connections between the Alpine Arc and its adjacent cities and agglomerations. Under the motto of Metropolises and "their" Alps and in the context of the current EU-wide discussion of macro-regions and spatial policy, the 2010 ForumAlpinum will explore the relationship between the Alps and large cities along the Alpine Arc from scientific and political angles. Plenary talks and workshops will focus on topics such as urbanisation, mobility, biodiversity, climate change and geo risks. The ForumAlpinum 2010 will culminate in a discussion uniting mayors from cities along the Alpine Arc and emissaries from Alpine regions, the EU and the Alpine Convention to address essential requirements and perspectives for joint strategies to achieve a European macro-region in the Alpine Arc.

On behalf of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW) and the International Scientific Committee on Research in the Alps (ISCAR), you are cordially invited to make your contribution to discussions on Metropolises and "their" Alps. The Residenz in the heart of Munich will provide a uniquely inspiring setting.
